This file contains the instructions for installing FacetTerm on Sun Solaris Version 7 (SunOS 5.7) and later from the files in this directory. If you have any problems installing FacetTerm or have any questions about the product, you may contact the Sales or Support staff of FacetCorp at Phone: (972) 985-9901 (USA) Fax: (800) 982-9901 (972) 612-2035 Internet: info@facetcorp.com support@facetcorp.com www.facetcorp.com Installing FacetTerm on Sun Solaris 7 (SunOS 5.7) and later for SPARC 1. You will need at least 6000 blocks of free disk space on your /usr partition to install FacetTerm. You can find out how much space is free on all disk partitions with the command: df 2. If you are updating a previous version of FacetTerm, you should install this new version without removing the previous version first. This will allow your FacetTerm registration to remain in effect. If you are installing over a previous version of FacetTerm, your /usr/facetterm/localterm and /usr/facetterm/localtext directories will be moved to /usr/facetterm/oldlocalterm and /usr/facetterm/oldlocaltext. Your /usr/facetterm/.facet, /usr/facetterm/.facetalpha, and /usr/facetterm/.facetprint files will be preserved. You may want to check the new versions of the files that will be installed with a ".df" extension. For example, there will be a new /usr/facetterm/.facet.df file which will reflect all the options available in the new .facet file. If you have changed any other files in your /usr/facetterm directory, make sure you have a backup copy of them before installing the new version. Finally, when updating a previous version of FacetTerm, be sure that nobody is running FacetTerm while you are loading the new version. You can check for people running FacetTerm with the command: ps -ef | grep facett 3. Log in as "root" on the system console. 4. Change directory to where compressed cpio archive "fterm.z" and the installation script "install.sh" are located. -- If you have the files on CD, use the command: cd "CD_MOUNT"/fterm/sun57 where "CD_MOUNT" is the directory where the CD-ROM drive has been mounted. -- If you downloaded the files, use the command: cd "DOWNLOAD-DIRECTORY" where "DOWNLOAD-DIRECTORY" is the directory where you downloaded the fterm.z file and the install.sh script on your machine. 5. Run the installation script sh ./install.sh 6. The installation procedure will begin. As the procedure runs, messages will be printed on the screen indicating what is being done. When it has successfully completed, FacetTerm will be ready for use. 7. Before running FacetTerm, it is necessary to have the TERM environment variable set correctly. After checking this, just enter facetterm at the UNIX command line to start FacetTerm. The FacetTerm banner page displays version, pseudo-tty, terminal, and hotkey information. If the terminal information does not match the setup, then press the interrupt character (usually Ctrl-C or DEL) to return to the command line. After FacetTerm starts, two new UNIX shells will be run. The screen should now look as it did before running FacetTerm, either at a UNIX prompt or possibly at an application screen. The two FacetTerm hotkeys, Ctrl-F and Ctrl-W are now available to access FacetTerm functions such as switching to window 2, starting an application in a new window, and shutting down FacetTerm. For a copy of the FacetTerm user manual or further information on FacetTerm, please contact FacetCorp.
